Domotz Collector – Minimum Hardware Requirements

The Domotz Collector has been benchmarked on a virtual machine running Ubuntu Linux 24.04, configured with 2 vCPUs and 4 GB of RAM. This article outlines the minimum and recommended hardware requirements and provides guidance on when to scale up resources.

These benchmarks were conducted on a virtual machine operating on Ubuntu Linux 24.04.

Minimum Configuration: 2 vCPUs / 2 GB RAM

This is the lowest configuration on which the Collector will run. It is suitable for smaller networks and lighter monitoring workloads.

Recommended Configuration: 2 vCPUs / 4 GB RAM

This is the benchmarked configuration and ensures stable operation with a moderate number of discovery protocols and scripts enabled. It supports:

  • Up to 1,000 discovered devices
  • Up to 100 External Hosts
  • Up to 15 Routed Networks (/24)
  • Up to 300 Managed Devices in total
    • With an average of 10 SNMP metrics monitored per device
    • And up to 100 drivers applied overall

This configuration ensures stable operation, even with discovery protocols enabled.

Note: If the virtual machine runs other services in addition to the Domotz Collector, increase CPU and RAM resources accordingly.

When to Increase Resources

If your deployment involves monitoring larger environments than described above, we recommend upgrading to at least 4 vCPUs and 8 GB of RAM (or higher) to maintain stability and responsiveness.

Additional Recommendations:

  • Avoid exceeding 2,500 discovered devices per collector.
  • Monitoring more than 200 External Hosts per collector is not recommended.
  • Monitoring more than 20 Routed Networks per collector is not
  • recommended.
  • For environments requiring low discovery latency (e.g., sub-minute detection of state changes), additional resources may be necessary.
